Outbuildings
Buitegeboue

Die jaar het ons begin om die motorhuis afdak aan te pak. Ongelukkig het ons teen spoed gehad met ons eerste kontrakteur. Die tweede kontrakteur Rico het tot dakhoogte gekom. Ongelukkig het hy van sy werkers verloor en staan die projek stil.

In die fotos sien julle Rico en Eben.

During this year we started the garage. Unfortunately, we had some trouble with our first contractor. The second contractor Rico manage to build to roof height. Unfortunately, he lost one of his workers and had toe stop.

Here you can see a picture that Rico building himself. In the second photo you see Eben and Rico.

Honor befell the - aardskip.com - is geplaas op die http://naturalhomes.org/themap.htm kaart - Goto the weblog for more info.

Die plasing van die Sonskip op die Natural Homes kaart is 'n ongelooflike eer, want hulle plaas geen aardskepe / "earthships" nie. Siende dat ons Sonskip van "earthbags" gemaak is en nie buitebande het hulle laat besluit om dit wel te klassifiseer as 'n eko-vriendelike-huis.

We added a lime plaster layer to prevent dissolving of the clay plaster layer. - aardskip.com - Hier kan julle duidelik die kalkpleister laag sien om die muur waterdig te maak.

Die kalkpleister bestaan uit:
2 dele sand
2 dele rooi grond (kleiagtig)
1 deel kalk
Kleurstof

Die doel van die pleisterlaag is om die sorg dat die reën nie net die kleipleister laag afspoel nie. Ons het sopas 30mm reën gehad en dit het gehou.

Die afwerking vir die muur gaan so organies bly.

Tussen hakkies omdat ons suidelik dak so plat lê het die sterk suidelike wind het die reën onder die nok in gedryf en dit het gedrup in die plante bak. Ons sal die gate tussen die dakplate en die nok moet blok.

The lime plaster consist of sand, ground (clayish), lime and colour. The purpose is to prevent the rain from dissolving the clay plaster. It works, we had a storm yesterday with hail and 30mm rain and the plaster is still intact.

By the way, at the notch of the roof the strong southerly wind blow some rain into the earthship. We will have to block the holes between the notch and the sheets, no train smash.

Het stoortje

1) Die manne wat die stoor gebou het.

The team that build this store. This store stabelized the western wall.

3) Venster in die stoor. Hier is slegs bottels, klei en strooi gebruik.

The store window. We only used bottles, klay and straw.

The last couple of weeks we prepared to place the back roof. Everytime we plan to place the roof something else happens.

Challenges

Currently we have the following serious challenges.

1. The one earthbag wall on the western side is not stable enough and we decided to build the store room first before we continue placing the roof.

2. Due to heavy rain in April almost 200 mm. We discover earth movements on the water tanks and we analysed it and have solution to prevent it in the future.

3. Unfortunately we have a more serious water leak on the eastern side of the earthship. This was not suppose to happen, because we were fairly causes with our water protection layer. Unfortunately something went wrong and we will have to do repairs. Additions that we will add, is to keep the rain from penetrating the hill behind the earthship. Plus we will add extra water drainage systems underneath the earthship's floor.

We have moved more earth behind the house. This will assist in laying the last layers of bags. - Daar is nou genoeg grond bo om die laaste sakke te vul.

Fotos eerste week 2012

plaster protection layer against the harsh sun.
4. Twedehandse / weggooi polistireen word onder die vloer versteek as
tempratuur isolasielaag. - Also notice we have tarred the bags to protect
them against the Karoo sun.

We have reached layer ten, well done to the team. At this rate we will
putting up the roof before March 2012.

Vordering - 2011-12-09 - Progress

The last two weeks we did a lot of back filling. Work left out by my previous foreman.
The door-frame on the right was treated with oil, seeing that the plastic were torn off by the wind.
We also treated the dirt-bags with a tar like substance to protect it against the sun.
Three of the water tanks are in place.
All the ventilation pipes except for one is in place.

We still have to build 12 dirt-bag levels. Then we will start with the roof.
From now on we will alternate between one level bags and one level backfilling.

Sedert ons vorige voorman ons in die steek gelaat het, het ons baie agterstallige werk verrig.
Die deurraam aan die regter kant is geolie, omdat die plastiek in die wind begin skeur het.
Die sandsakke is met 'n teeragtige chemikalie geverf om dit teen die son te beskerm.
Drie van die watertenks is in plek.
Op een na is al die ventilasie pype is in plek.

Ons het nog 12 sandsak-rye om gaan voor ons die dakhoogte beryk.
In die toekoms sal ons wissel tussen die lê; van 'n ry sakke en die opvulwerk.
