Ons bly maar besig met herwinning en hier is ‘n lampskerm wat ons gemaak het van herwinde koeldrank bottels.

The Corn Flake Traveller visited the - aardskip com - was besoek deur 'n Engelse filmspan - Goto the weblog for more info.

Die jaar gaan 'n bietjie dol en ons het nog glad begin om aan die aardskip te werk nie. Eerste week het ons besoek gehad van my suster en swaer. Nog die selfde week het ons Joanelle, my oudst,e na Jeffreysbaai geneem. Sy gaan daar begin by haar eerste werk. Ons is baie trots op haar sy het ook haar Honneurs in Kommunikasiekunde met lof geslaag.

Die tweede week het ek die binnenshuis se tuin 'n bietjie onderhande geneem. Ongelukkig vaar ons tuin in die sommer maande, November tot Februarie, baie swak. Aangesien ons geen direkte sonlig in die huis kry nie, wil die groente nie dra nie en die plantebak bly effens te nat.

Hierdie week het ons 'n filmspan van Engeland gekry en van die lede is niemand minder as Mick Hobday the Corn Flake Traveler. Hy het in 68 lande graanvlokkies geëet. Hier is sy webwerwe:

Mick (Liverpool) was saam Richard Pears (Lexester) en Hanneke van Linge (JHB) by die aardskip en hulle het omtrent alles gefilm. Die volgende dag het hulle deur gery na Bloemfontein om die Qala Phelang Tala projekte te gaan verfilm.

Ons het self ook na Bloemfontein gegaan vir Arno, ons seun. Hy het gegaan vir 'n onderhoud om te gaan werk in VSA by 'n rond reisende karnaval.

Volgende week gaan ons begin om die weste muur te pleister.

This year is going a little bit crazy and we have not started working on the earthship yet. The first week my sister and brother in law visited us. The very same week we took our eldest Joanelle to Jeffereysbay where she started her first job. We are very proud of her she passed her Honors in
Communication with distinction.

The second week I cleaned up the inside garden. Unfortunately our garden is not doing well from November to February. Since the garden do not get any direct sunlight, the vegetables does not bear.

This week we got a film crew of England and one of the members is none other than Mick Hobday the Corn Flake Traveler. He ate corn flake in 68 countries.

Mick was here with Richard Pears and Hanneke van Linge at the earthship and filming just about everything. The next day they drove to Bloemfontein to film the Qala Phelang Tala projects.

We also went to Bloemfontein for our son Arno where he went for an interview for work in US, at a traveling carnival.

Next week we will begin to plaster the western wall.

Son skuif in - www.aardskip.com - it is autumn and we are getting sun inside.

In die foto sien die herstelde plantebak. Die plantebak se muur was gebou met cob en blikkies. Die bokant se pleister laag was iets te dun en moes dikker gemaak word.

Verder kan u ook sien hoe die son weer begin inskyn in die plantebak in. Dit is goeie en slegte nuus. Die goeie nuus is dat ons weer saadjies kan saai, want in die somer wou die plante nie groei nie. Daar was geen direkte sonlig in die plantebak nie. Die slegte nuus is dat Orania nog nie behoorlik afgekoel het nie en die gang bly nou iets te warm.

Wie van julle kan die botterskorsie sien?

NOTA: Dit het so week gelede 16.9 mm gereën en gister nog so 6mm. Van laas week al is ons 30kl tenks vol.

In the photo you can the renovated planter. The planter wall was built with cob and cans. The top plaster layer of the wall was to thin and had to be made thicker.

You can also see the sun shining into the planter again. This is good and bad news. The good news is that we can sow seeds again. In the summer the plants did not grow, because there was no direct sunlight in the planter. The bad news is that Orania has not properly cooled down and the passage is
now still a bit to hot.

Who of you can see the butter nut?

NOTE: Last week it rained 16.9mm and this week 6mm. Out tanks are full. - 30kl!

Badkamer se plafon is in. - www.aardskip.com - ceiling in bathroom.

Last week we placed the ceiling in the bathroom.

In the photo you see the ceiling and additional wooden-panel with it's recycled plastic bottles as lights.

Laas week het ons die badkamer se plafon geplaas. Ons het ook ekstra polystyrene op die plafon geplaas vir ekstra isolasie.

Geseënde Kersfees aan al ons ondersteuners - www.aardskip.com - Blessed Christmas to all of our supporters.

This week we spend time on cleaning our original recycle material store, it started to look a bit like a rubbish dump right in front of the earthship. Arno made a couple of crates to store our recycled material. So now our yard looks much better. All unusable stuff we took back to the towns recycle centre.

We also started making a huge Christmas tree, 3 meters high, with some of our recycled wood and hosepipes. Yesterday we bought two strings of 200 LED Christmas lights each. Take note, LED lights!

In the picture you can see the final product. On the left in front of the earthship is the tree, in the centre you see the bathroom's bottle wall with the cross shining. Top centre is the VODACOM tower's spot lights behind the earthship on the hill. On the right is a light net inside the earthship.

We placed more tiles in the bathroom.

Hierdie week het ons tyd gespandeer aan die skoonmaak van ons oorspronklike herwonnemateriaal-stoor, dit het 'n bietjie begin lyk soos 'n vullishoop reg voor die aardskip. Arno het 'n paar kratte gemaak om die herwonnemateriaal te stoor. So nou lyk ons werf baie beter. Alle onbruikbaar dinge het ons terug geneem na die dorp se herwinnings-sentrum.

Ons het ook begin om 'n groot Kersboom, 3 meter hoog, met die herwonne hout en tuinslange te maak. Gister het ons twee stringe van 200 LED Kersfees liggies elk gekoop. Let wel, LED ligte!

Op die foto kan julle die finale produk sien. Aan die linkerkant voor die aardskip is die boom, in die middel sien julle die badkamer se bottelmuur met die kruis wat deur skyn. Bo in middel agter die aardskip op die heuwel sien julle die Vodacom-toring se skynwerpers. Aan die regterkant is 'n lignet aan die binnekant van die aardskip.

Herwinnig in die - www.Aardskip.com - use pipes and bottels to create doorhandles and glass bricks.

Bou: Die week het ons gewerk aan die badkamer. In die foto sien u die bottel muur se buitekant wat gekalkpleisterlaag is. Verder sien julle hoe ons, ons eie moderne deurhandvatsels maak maak met herwonne materiaal.

Plante: Baie dankie aan tannie Magda Opperman vir die koejawelboom, die boom het onmiddellik uitgeloop. Verder doen ons tamaties baie goed en die eerste tamatie is ryp, volledig organies. Die piesangboom doen nie goed nie, die stegie was seker verkeerd afgesny. Kan iemand vir ons 'n nuwe piesangbome
skenk? Die avokadoboom loop ook baie mooi uit. Verder is tweede oes slaaiblare is ook al eetbaar. Ons eerste blomkool het ook begin blom.

Water: Die gryswater wat gebruik word vir die spoel van die toilet is nou stabiel en skuim nie meer uit die bak uit nie. Reën is nog baie skaars en ons moes 'n paar keer 'n paar liter rivierwater toe gevoeg in ons tenks.

Building: This week we have been working on the bathroom. In the picture you see the outside of the bottle wall. We plastered the lime layer and you see how we make our own modern door handles with recycled material.

Planter: Thanks to Aunt Magda Opperman for guava tree, the tree already sprouted. The tomatoes are doing very well and the first tomato is ripe, fully organic. The banana tree does not do well, maybe the cutting was the wrong size. Can someone please donate the earthship another banana trees? The avocado tree
is doing fine. Our second harvest salad leaves are already edible.

Water: The grey water used for flushing the toilet is stable and does not foam out of the bowl, anymore.Rain is still very scarce and we had to add a few litters of river water in our tanks.

Die week was daar nie veel gewerk nie, omdat ons familie hier gekuier het. Die sitkamer vloer is klaar en verder het ons ook gewerk aan die badkamer se panele en deur.
